- You get what you wish for, so know and define exactly what you want and make sure your goals are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely
- Once you’ve defined your goal, learn how to tell a story about why you want it. Use a triangle of three things – your past experience, what future behaviours you are going to take and how it makes you feel)
- Create a list of stakeholders and people who could help you achieve it, even if you don’t know them
- Talk about your vision with as many people as possible – especially those who might give your access to the people at no. 3 that you don’t know because you never know how someone can help you
- Do something every day that moves you closer to your goal – for example, some internet research to educate yourself more, a visioning exercise, or whatever feeds your creativity to keep your goal active whether that be creating a vision board or drawing
- Think outside the box. It might be that a completely crazy journey or route could take you to your goal
- If you don’t meet your timeline or deadline, don’t be afraid to adjust it. Sometimes things take twice as long as we think they will
- Never give up, even when you think it is impossible. Show tenacity and persistence – stay with it
