EOS MEETing Pulse

How do you know if your meetings are working?

If you’re running your business on the Entrepreneurial Operating System, you’ll know that the key element is regular, efficient meetings, which help to determine how well employees are performing, if they’re working as a team and if your business on track.

This is known as a Level 10 meeting, because each one is rated by all the attendees and the aim is for everyone to score every meeting a 10. At the end of the meeting, each person gives their individual score – out loud.

The benefit of scoring your meetings is that it helps people to work together better as a team, and to improve in real time. The point is to create an open and honest environment where people feel happy to present their point of view and challenge what is being proposed.

How do you know if your meetings are working?

It’s important for attendees to understand how to rate the meeting and how to score it.

  1. Did the meeting start and end on time, so meetings don’t collapse into each other in your diary?
  2. Did the meeting following the Level 10 agenda? Sometimes meetings can veer off at a tangent which waste time and are not productive.
  3. Did people come prepared, anticipating what information they will need in order to make decisions there and then.
  4. Did you review the To Do list and are the 7-day To Dos getting done? The aim is for 90% of them to have been completed by the following week.
  5. Were you able to prioritise the top three issues to be discussed? Did you find the root cause of the problem, present possible solutions, and agree and decide on the actions and To Dos to be taken to solve the issue?
  6. You’re not rating each other or the meeting content, but how well everyone worked together as a team. Was everybody’s point of view heard, did people feel comfortable to challenge alternative points of view, and then come together in a unanimous decision?
  7. If someone rates the meeting and eight or less, they provide feedback of what needs to be done to make it a 10. If at any time during the meeting a team member feels it is falling below a 10, speak up then and get it back on track. This allows for real-time continuous improvement.

At Bold Clarity we run our Level 10 meetings on a Monday from 2-3.30pm, with remote workers dialling in on Zoom, using a software system called Traction Tools to keep track of all our EOS tools, Issues and To Dos.

I look forward to our Level 10s because I know we are all going to be together, will be able to get everyone’s perspective and make decisions as a team for the greater good of the business.
